Paulino‘s Pursuit: American Star Eyes Koch’s Record and Los Angeles Olympic Double
Budapest – American athlete Paulino has set her sights on breaking Jarmila Kratochvílová’s longstanding world record in the 400m, while concurrently considering a return to the hurdles at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The ambitious plan, revealed after a recent race, woudl see her attempt both track events should the Olympic schedule allow.
Kratochvílová’s 400m record, set in 1983, has stood for over four decades, a testament to its difficulty. Paulino’s pursuit arrives as she is coached by Bob Kersee, a highly respected figure whose previous athletes include Florence Griffith-Joyner, Gail Devers, and Allyson felix, among others. the potential for a double attempt at the los Angeles Games is complex by the unusual scheduling of athletics in the frist week of the Olympics, but Paulino is determined to work with organizers to create a program that allows her to compete in both events.
“the program will depend on the Los Angeles Olympics. Maybe I could run both tracks when there was a day off between them,” Paulino stated. “The body must be ready to perform the best performances, but simultaneously occurring I have to respect other girls.” She also expressed her continued belief in her ability to surpass koch’s record, even after her most recent race.
The feasibility of Paulino’s plan hinges on the final Olympic schedule, which is still being prepared by organizers. Successfully navigating both the 400m and hurdles, alongside relay commitments, will require a meticulously crafted program. However, expectations are high that the American star will actively engage with organizers to explore all possibilities.
