An independent wrestling event hosted by ECC Wrestling has been canceled after AEW reportedly prevented The Outrunners from appearing, according to a Facebook post by Brandon Tate, one half of the tag team known as The Boys. Tate alleges AEW cited contractual obligations as the reason for pulling The Outrunners from a scheduled match next Sunday.
ECC Wrestling confirmed the cancellation in a Facebook post, stating refunds have been issued for online purchases adn will be available in person at Cheers beginning tomorrow at 5pm.The promotion expressed hope to reschedule both The Outrunners and The Boys for future events.
tate’s post comes amid an ongoing legal battle between he and his brother Brent Tate, and AEW CEO Tony Khan. The Tates, along wiht former AEW announcer Kevin Kelly, filed a lawsuit against Khan and AEW in September 2023, claiming defamation related to comments Khan made regarding the brothers missing ROH TV tapings and AEW events. Kelly was terminated by AEW in March 2024 after publicly criticizing the promotion and Ian Riccaboni, alleging Riccaboni then defamed him online regarding his support for the film Sound of Freedom. A judge ordered the case to arbitration in June 2024.
As of this writing, neither Tony Khan, AEW, nor The Outrunners have publicly commented on Tate’s claims. It remains unclear how this situation may impact the ongoing arbitration.
Brandon and brent Tate gained prominence in Ring of Honor as The Boys, accompanying Dalton Castle to the ring.
