Ruben Neves, the Portuguese midfielder currently with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, is reportedly considering a return to European football, sparking potential interest from Manchester United. With his contract at Al-Hilal set to expire next summer, the 28-year-old has emerged as a surprising, yet potentially shrewd, option to bolster United’s midfield.
This development comes after Manchester United previously explored options to strengthen their central midfield ranks earlier this summer. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba was identified as a target, however, his estimated £100 million price tag proved prohibitive, leading the club to pause their pursuit. While a future move for Baleba hasn’t been entirely ruled out, United also considered alternatives like Adam Wharton, Morten Hjulmand, and Elliot Anderson.
According to reports from The Daily Briefing, Neves is now actively open to a return to European competition.Having previously excelled in the Premier League with wolverhampton Wanderers, the midfielder is familiar with the demands of English football and could offer a level of experience and composure that United’s midfield currently lacks.
Neves has recently achieved a milestone with Al-Hilal, demonstrating his continued quality on the pitch. However, the expiring nature of his contract presents a unique possibility for clubs like Manchester United
