Swansea City Stun Nottingham Forest with Dramatic Late Comeback in Carabao Cup
Swansea, wales – A late goal from defender Kyle Burgess secured a stunning 3-2 victory for Swansea City over Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup, sending the Championship side through and inflicting a painful defeat on Forest manager Ange Postecoglou. Forest had led 2-0 before Swansea mounted a spirited second-half comeback.
The match saw Forest take a two-goal lead, but Postecoglou’s introduction of substitutes morgan Gibbs-White - a former Swansea loanee – and Callum Hudson-Odoi failed to prevent a dramatic turnaround. Burgess headed in Eom Ji-sung’s corner in the 68th minute to ignite the comeback, while goalkeeper Andy Fisher made a crucial save to deny Hudson-Odoi.
“My back but I was quite calm,” Swansea head coach Alan Sheehan said. “I was looking at the clock as with 30 seconds left they are a team that can put the ball in the top corner.”
Postecoglou acknowledged his team’s complacency, stating, “We are going to have to earn everything we get, it’s not just going to come to us. I felt we thoght it would naturally just pan out that we would win the game and go through, but it’s not how football works.” Forest will travel to Burnley on Saturday.
