Richard plug has Tuesday at the ceremony of Jonas Vingegaard Responded to the Pro-Palestina demonstrations in the Vuelta. According to Plugge, it was no longer about Palestine at some point. “No, I don’t believe that at some point there was still a noble striving behind it.”

No fewer than four stages in the Vuelta were shortened or canceled by the demonstrations, including the final ride to Madrid. Plugge saw it happen in Madrid himself, but of course also saw a few things happen on TV. “I have never experienced so much hatred. No more attention was asked for something. It was really to destroy things.”

“I thought it was really fierce. Riders were just attacked. At one point someone was pulled off his motorcycle. As far as I’m concerned, the UCI de Vuelta should have had to give more support much earlier.” he goes on.

“But I’m not worried about the sport yet,” Plugge ends. “This is almost something that the sport went beyond. Something arose in Spain. Normally, there is always a demonstration with respect for the sport. I expect that this will also be in the last races of the season.”
