Colorado Mesa Golf: Everett Leads Mavs in Round 1 of Invitational

SHERIDAN, Wyo.Colorado Mesa University’s men’s golf team surged to ⁢a⁢ tie for first‌ place at the Travis Roy Memorial Invitational after ​a strong opening ‌round at Powder ⁤Horn ‌Golf‍ Club on Monday. The Mavericks share the lead ‍with CSU Pueblo, both teams carding a ⁣two-over-par ⁤290.

the tournament,​ hosted ‍by ​South Dakota Mines, ‌features 12 teams and⁣ 60 ‌individual​ golfers, including competitors from seven different‌ schools within the Rocky⁣ Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Colorado⁤ Mesa’s performance sets the ⁢stage for a competitive remainder of the invitational, with implications for ​early-season ‍rankings and​ momentum ⁤within the RMAC. Play continues Tuesday with a 9 A.M. shotgun start.

Leading the Mavericks was junior Dylan Everett, who fired a three-under-par 69 to claim the individual lead. Everett’s round included three birdies and an eagle, with only one hole ⁢played over par.

Luke Wagstaff contributed an even-par 72, highlighted by‍ six birdies and an ⁣eagle on the 18th‌ hole,⁢ placing him in a⁢ tie for eighth. Timmy Cavarno followed closely behind with⁣ a one-over-par ⁢73, securing a tie for 12th place and totaling ⁤five birdies. Leo ‍Lavalle carded a 76, finishing at four-over ⁣and tied for 26th.

Henry Starr ⁤made his collegiate debut for the Mavericks,shooting a 78.
