Spokane audience rallies to save man experiencing medical emergency during comedy show
A comedy performance in Spokane, Washington, took a dramatic turn Friday night when a man collapsed from a heart attack just 10 minutes into comedian Drew Lynch‘s set. Quick action by audience members is credited with saving his life.
The incident underscores the critical importance of CPR and bystander intervention in medical emergencies. While heart attacks can happen anywhere, the swift response in this case highlights the potential for positive outcomes when communities are prepared to act. The man, whose name has not been released, spent the night in the hospital and is now recovering.
Comedian Drew Lynch, known as “The Stuttering Comedian,” shared an emotional account of the event on Instagram, praising the collaborative effort of those present. He described the scene as a “miracle” and expressed renewed faith in humanity.
“The fact that I just got to witness us just a village, basically, of people just working together and understanding the stakes of the situation and being good-natured,” Lynch said.
According to Lynch, the man had no pulse for five minutes before responders were able to revive him. He visited the man in the hospital the following day and found him in good spirits, joking and discussing his profession as a speech therapist.
“Thank you, Spokane, you should be very proud,” Lynch stated.
