Boston‘s Historic Folk Revival to be Explored in New Arrow Street Arts Event

Arrow Street Arts will host an in-depth exploration of the Boston Folk revival of 1958-1965, featuring a distinguished panel of musicians, historians, adn family representatives. The event promises a extensive look at this pivotal period in American musical history, examining its cultural impact and lasting legacy.

The panel includes Anna Canoni,granddaughter of Woody guthrie and President of Woody Guthrie Publications; Betsy Siggins,a founding member of Club 47 and former executive Director of Club Passim,and a long-time friend of Joan Baez; Bob Santelli,a GRAMMY Award-winning music historian,producer,and educator currently serving as Executive Director of the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music; Douglas Brinkley,a prominent presidential historian and biographer of Bob Dylan; Ellis Paul,a Boston-based singer-songwriter and artist recognized with 14 Boston Music Awards; Jeannie Brand,daughter of Oscar Brand and representative of his estate; Jim Brown,a four-time Emmy Award-winning documentary film producer; Jim Rooney,a producer,performer,writer,and pioneer in Americana music; Tom Paxton,a folk singer-songwriter,educator,and advocate for over 60 years,and recipient of the GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award; and Tom Rush,a folk and blues singer,guitarist,and songwriter with a career spanning over 60 years.

The Boston Folk Revival,centered around venues like Club 47,provided a crucial launching pad for many iconic artists and helped shape the sound of a generation. The event aims to illuminate the scene’s unique characteristics and its enduring influence on contemporary music.
