Daugavpils Secures Fourth Place in Tonybet Football League with 3-2 Victory Over Grobiņš
DAUGAVPILS, Latvia – Daugavpils clinched fourth place in teh Tonybet Football League after a hard-fought 3-2 (1-1) victory over Grobiņš at home in the 29th round of competition. The win strengthens Daugavpils’ position in the league standings and boosts thier chances of qualifying for the UEFA Conference league next season.
This result is crucial for Daugavpils, as finishing fourth could secure a spot in the European competition. for Grobiņš, the defeat leaves them at the bottom of the table and unable to move out of last place in this round. The match was characterized by two penalty kicks awarded to Daugavpils, both successfully converted by Tati Chibinda, alongside a goal from Promis Viktor. Artjom Puzirevsky and Mykola Ahapovs scored for Grobiņš.
The game began with a penalty awarded to Grobiņš in the eighth minute after a foul by Maxim Fedorov on Evgeny Minin. Chibinda converted the spot-kick, but Puzirevsky equalized for Grobiņš in the 19th minute following a pass from Oļģerda Rashchevsky.
Early in the second half, Daugavpils was awarded another penalty after ralph Denny Džeriņš fouled Viktor. Chibinda again scored, making it 2-1 in the 53rd minute. Viktor extended Daugavpils’ lead to 3-1 with 15 minutes remaining, before Ahapovs scored a late goal for Grobiņš in the final minute of regular time, setting the final score at 3-2.
Elsewhere in the league,RFS lost 1-4 to Jelgava,and Riga defeated Auda 6-0. Metta beat Super Nova 2-1, temporarily moving them off the bottom of the table, while Liepaja overcame Tukums 2000 with a 4-1 scoreline.
