Baptist Health Expands Rehabilitation Services,offering Advanced Care for Patients on the Road to Recovery
South Florida – Baptist Health is significantly expanding it’s physical medicine and rehabilitation capabilities with enhancements to its existing homestead Hospital unit and the advancement of a new,dedicated inpatient rehabilitation hospital slated to open in south Miami in 2026. These investments underscore the health system’s commitment to providing comprehensive, cutting-edge care for individuals recovering from stroke, brain injury, orthopedic issues, and other debilitating conditions.
Physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), also known as physiatry, focuses on restoring optimal function for people with physical impairments or disabilities. It’s often a crucial final step towards a full recovery, helping patients regain independence and improve their quality of life. Baptist Health’s expanded services aim to deliver this critical care with a multidisciplinary approach and state-of-the-art technology.
Currently,Baptist Health Homestead Hospital features a 23-bed,CARF-accredited rehabilitation unit specializing in stroke,brain injury,and cancer rehabilitation,among other areas. the unit is equipped with advanced rehabilitation technology, including gait-training systems, walking exoskeletons, and virtual reality environments designed to simulate real-world scenarios and support patient recovery.
Looking ahead, a new 100,000-square-foot rehabilitation Hospital, developed in partnership with LifePoint Rehabilitation, is under construction in South Miami. Expected to open in 2026,the facility will include 62 inpatient rooms – expandable to 92 – and a parking garage. It will serve patients with brain, spinal cord, orthopedic, stroke, and select cardiac and oncology conditions.
