South Florida – Baptist ⁤Health is significantly expanding it’s physical​ medicine and rehabilitation capabilities with enhancements to its existing homestead⁢ Hospital unit and the advancement of a new,dedicated ​inpatient‍ rehabilitation hospital slated to ⁤open in south Miami in 2026. Physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), also known as physiatry, focuses on restoring optimal function for people with physical impairments or disabilities. It’s often ⁤a crucial final step towards a‌ full recovery, helping patients regain independence and ⁢improve their quality of life. Baptist Health’s expanded services‌ aim to deliver this critical care with a multidisciplinary⁢ approach and state-of-the-art technology.

Currently,Baptist Health Homestead Hospital ‍features a 23-bed,CARF-accredited rehabilitation unit ⁤specializing in stroke,brain injury,and cancer rehabilitation,among other areas. the unit is equipped with advanced rehabilitation technology, including gait-training ‍systems, walking exoskeletons, and virtual reality environments designed to simulate real-world scenarios and support patient recovery.

Looking ahead, ​a new 100,000-square-foot rehabilitation Hospital, developed in partnership with LifePoint Rehabilitation, is under construction in South Miami. Expected to open in 2026,the facility will include 62 inpatient rooms – expandable to 92 – and a parking garage. It will serve patients with brain, spinal ‍cord, orthopedic, stroke,​ and select cardiac and oncology conditions.
