Metta Escapes Last Place in Latvian Top Flight with Sunday Victory
Jurmala,Latvia – FK Metta secured a crucial victory on Sunday,defeating Super Nova 2-1 and temporarily climbing out of the bottom spot in the Tonybet Football League. Goals from Emil evelon and Abdul in Banur propelled Metta to the win, offering a vital boost in their fight against relegation.
The result marks a notable, albeit possibly fleeting, reprieve for Metta, who have struggled throughout the season. This win elevates them above Grobiņa in the standings, at least until further matches are played. The team’s performance underscores the intensely competitive nature of the Latvian top flight, where even a single victory can dramatically alter a team’s position.
Evelon opened the scoring in the 34th minute, heading in a cross from Markus Ivulāns. Super Nova responded with a goal from Artems Marcuk in the 82nd minute, leveling the score. Though,Metta quickly regained the lead,with Banur finding the net just a minute later from within the penalty area.
Elsewhere in the league, Liepaja dominated Tukums 2000 with a 4-1 victory.Bruno Melnis, Jibril Gay, Marin Laušičs, and Danila Patiijčuks all scored for liepaja, while Raivis Kiršs netted the lone goal for Tukums 2000. Melnis scored in the 15th minute following a high centering pass from Lausičs,and Gay doubled the lead eleven minutes later. Kiršs narrowed the gap before halftime, but Lausich and Patiijčuks secured the win for Liepaja in the 81st and 92nd minutes, respectively.
The current league standings see Riga leading with 73 points from 28 matches, followed by RFS with 67 points and Liepaja with 50 points from 29 games. Daugavpils and Auda hold 40 points each, while Jelgava has 32, Super Nova 26, Tukums 2000 25, Metta 24, and Grobiņa 23. Notably, RFS suffered a 1-4 defeat against Jelgava on Saturday, and Riga convincingly beat Auda 6-0.
The league continues on Monday with a match between Daugavpils and Grobiņa. The ten-team Super League Championship is played over four rounds, with each team contesting 36 games before the season concludes in November. RFS were the champions in the previous season.
