Vince Neil Reveals Stroke delayed Motley Crue residency, details Grueling Recovery
LAS VEGAS – Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil disclosed he suffered a stroke earlier this year, contributing to delays in the band’s ongoing Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM. The revelation came in a recent interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, shedding light on the singer’s visibly challenging return to the stage and addressing concerns raised by fans.
The stroke, which occurred months before the residency’s August launch, left Neil initially unable to walk without assistance. “I went from people carrying me to the bathroom, because I couldn’t walk myself, finally to a wheelchair,” Neil recounted. He detailed a rigorous recovery process undertaken at his 30-acre ranch with the support of his girlfriend, progressing from a wheelchair to a walker, then a cane, and ultimately regaining the ability to walk unassisted. “But it’s like a full-time job getting back to where you feel good again,” he said, adding, “It takes a while to get your brain to start moving your legs, for them to do what your brain wants to do.”
motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx acknowledged Neil’s struggles in a separate interview with the Los Angeles times, stating, “He’s going to go onstage again and to fight through that.If he’s got some imperfect moments here and there, they’re getting erased as the days go with rehearsal.” Neil himself expressed optimism, stating he is “90-95% back to where I was before, and it’s going to be great.”
The news of Neil’s stroke coincides with ongoing fallout from the band’s 2022 split with former guitarist Mick mars, including lawsuits and accusations. Mars had publicly claimed the band used pre-recorded tracks during concerts for years. Neil vehemently denied the allegation, stating, “No, we never did that, ever,” and claiming Mars “was the only one on tape, because he kept fucking stuff up, so we had him on tape… When he started going off on some weird tangent, our sound guy just turned him off and turned the tape on.”
Neil’s return to performing with his solo band on August 2 in Boston drew mixed reactions, with some fans applauding his comeback while others expressed concern over his appearance in videos from the show. A subsequent solo gig was canceled. The band is currently promoting a new compilation album, “From the Beginning,” featuring material spanning their career, including a recent collaboration with Dolly Parton on “Home Sweet Home.” neil affirmed his commitment to the residency, stating, “I am going to push through the best I can.”
