CAIRO – Zamalek Club board member Ahmed Suleiman publicly questioned the timing of Mahmoud Al-Khatib’s decision to step down as president of Al-Ahly, criticizing the announcement as disruptive to the club’s current season.
speaking on the “Al-Laib” program on MBC Egypt, Suleiman stated that Al-Khatib should have delayed announcing his departure until after the Al-Ahly General Assembly scheduled for September 19. He argued the decision, made on Friday, was ill-timed given the “great challenges” facing Al-Ahly in the coming period and should not have occurred mid-season.
“The decision should not take place in the middle of the season or a difficult time,” Suleiman said, adding that Al-Ahly is a “great club” and the announcement could have been handled differently.
Al-Khatib officially announced his departure from the Al-Ahly presidency earlier today, sparking speculation about potential successors.
