GREENSBORO, N.C. – Averett University men’s soccer secured a 2-0 shutout victory over Greensboro College on wednesday afternoon, marking their first away win of the season and extending their winning streak against the Pride to four consecutive matches.
The Cougars controlled the tempo, breaking the deadlock in the 29th minute with a well-executed play. Hudson Bradley delivered a through ball to Joshua Garcia,who curled a shot into the bottom left corner of the net. Averett continued to pressure Greensboro, and in the 71st minute, Marek hanscom intercepted a pass and fired a shot past the goalkeeper for his first goal as a Cougar, doubling their lead.
senior goalkeeper Anibal Lopez was instrumental in the shutout, recording eight saves and securing his second clean sheet of the season. Despite facing a higher volume of shots, Averett’s defense remained resolute, denying Greensboro any scoring opportunities.
This win boosts Averett’s record and builds momentum as they continue their road trip. The Cougars will next face North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on Sunday, September 14, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
