Drammen Stuns Elverum with 34-30 Away Victory in Elite Series Handball Clash
Drammen, Norway – Drammen HK delivered a notable upset in teh elite series handball league, defeating Elverum 34-30 on their home court. Despite early technical difficulties for Drammen, the team ultimately outplayed Elverum, a result celebrated by coach Oma on the team’s channel.
The match began with a shocking start for Elverum, as Drammen quickly surged ahead to a 2-7 lead within the first seven minutes. Elverum responded, narrowing the gap to 7-8 around the twelve-minute mark, but drammen maintained control for the remainder of the first half, leading 14-17 at the break. Elverum briefly tied the score at 12-12, but it proved to be the last time they were on level terms.
“We got badly into the fight. We are to late in situations and come limping a little afterwards. We have to work with intensity and physics,” Elverum coach Børge Lund stated to TV 2 during halftime. Drammen coach Kjelling acknowledged the challenge, saying, “We know it will be really tough when they come with full throttle. We have experienced before being taken back in 2nd round.”
Drammen extended their lead to 16-21 early in the second half, but Elverum fought back, reducing the deficit to a single goal at 23-24 midway through the round. However, a decisive three-goal run by Drammen re-established a four-goal advantage, which Elverum was unable to overcome.Haugstvedt’s ninth goal of the match, scored with five and a half minutes remaining, pushed Drammen’s lead to seven at 26-33. Despite a late push from Elverum, Drammen secured the 34-30 victory.
