Karisma Kapoor’s children Challenge Late Father Sunjay Kapur‘s Will in Delhi High Court
New Delhi – September 10, 2025 - Samaira Kapur, 20, and Kiaan Raj Kapur, 15, the children of late businessman Sunjay Kapur and actress Karisma Kapoor, have filed a plea in the Delhi High Court challenging the validity of a will purportedly leaving all of their father’s personal assets to his last wife, Priya Kapur.Justice Jyoti Singh has registered the plaint and issued notice to Ms. Priya, scheduling a hearing for October 9.
The petition seeks to restrain Ms. Priya from acting on the contested will, with the children arguing thay are entitled to their shares in their father’s estate as Class I legal heirs under Indian succession laws. They allege the document “is not a legal and valid document, is forged and fabricated and in any event surrounded by suspicious circumstances.”
During initial hearings, senior advocate Rajiv nayar, representing Ms.Priya, argued the children had already benefited from a ample inheritance, receiving assets valued at over ₹1,900 crore through the family trust. He further contended that the will’s lack of registration does not invalidate it, stating, “It’s not registered. There is a judgment which says an unregistered [will] does not take the validity away. When I set up the will, my lady [judge] will be entitled to examine if it is suspicious in nature.” He questioned the timing of the suit, given the recent ₹1,900 crore distribution from the trust, asking,”What more do they want?”
the court has directed ms.Priya to file a list of all movable and immovable assets known to her as of June 12, alongside her reply to the plaint.
Sunjay kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, has also challenged the will, claiming she was left with nothing. Her counsel, senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, stated she has repeatedly sought access to the will’s documentation but has been denied, alleging, “There is something incredibly unholy. ₹10,000 crore worth of assets should have been mine.”
Ms. Priya’s counsel highlighted the previous contentious divorce between Karisma kapoor and Sunjay Kapur, which was ultimately settled under the supervision of the Supreme Court. The counsel appealed to the court, stating, “Please have some sympathy for the soul of the deceased. I [Priya] have a six-year-old child. I am a widow. I am his last wife. You [Karisma] were nowhere to be seen for the last 15 years. It’s not as if these people are left on the streets.”
Karisma Kapoor and sunjay Kapur married in September 2003 and divorced in June 2016, having two children together.Sunjay Kapur later married Priya in april 2017, and they had one child. The case is expected to draw notable attention as it unfolds, potentially impacting the distribution of a substantial estate.
