Castlebar mourns the loss of Margaret Groarke, née McDonagh, a beloved figure synonymous with Midwest Radio, who passed away peacefully on September 10th, 2025, in Mayo Hospice, Castlebar, surrounded by her family. she was in her 93rd year.
The passing of Mrs. Groarke, a long-time resident of Station Road, castlebar, adn formerly of Taugheen, Claremorris, marks the end of an era for local broadcasting and a profound loss for her family and the wider community. Her decades-long association with midwest Radio made her a familiar and cherished voice to generations of listeners. Funeral arrangements are in place to honour her life and legacy.
Predeceased by her husband John, son Jimmy, parents John and Annie McDonagh, and siblings, Margaret is deeply regretted by her heartbroken family: sons Seán and Enda, daughter Dympna, sister Nora Cawfield (UK), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, daughter-in-law Denise, son-in-law Sean, Enda’s partner Marrion, grandchildren Shane and Liane, great-grandchild Lily, and a wide circle of nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Reposing in Coady’s funeral Home, Castlebar, F23 XY63, on Friday, September 12th, from 5.30pm, Margaret will be removed at 7pm to her residence.
Removal from her residence will take place on Saturday morning at 10.30 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 11.30a.m. in the Church of the holy Rosary, Castlebar (via The Mall). following Mass, Margaret will be laid to rest in Castlebar New Cemetery.
