Giorgio Armani Laid to Rest in Private Ceremony in Rivalta
Rivalta, Italy – Fashion icon Giorgio Armani was laid to rest Monday in a private funeral service held in his birthplace of Rivalta, Italy. The ceremony followed a period of public mourning in Milan, where approximately 16,000 people paid their respects at the City Theater/armani over the weekend.
Armani brand stores were closed Monday as a sign of respect.
The funeral, attended by around 70 relatives and close friends, was preceded by remarks from Giuseppe Busanis, a priest of the Rivale San Martin Church parish. “Giorgio Armani cherished God’s beauty garden,” Busanis saeid. He continued, describing Armani’s approach to life and work: “He survived him with his characteristic noble simplicity. Often the injured piece he helped to renew and change its shape. We are grateful that he chose this place, we feel beloved and respected. The connection to Rivalta has been in the earth for many years. Maestro Giorgio was burning a passion for his loved ones.”
Security was heightened in Rivalta during the service. Locals lined the streets leading to the church, scattering white flower petals as a tribute. A wreath from Armani’s staff bore the message: “with great love, your staff.”
