URA redraws development plans for upcoming 4,000-home Kampong Bugis precinct

URA Revises Plans for 4,000-Home kampong Bugis, Prioritizing Green Spaces & Community⁤ Integration

Teh Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has redrawn development plans for the upcoming 4,000-home ‍Kampong Bugis precinct, emphasizing enhanced green spaces, pedestrian-pleasant streets, and stronger ​integration wiht‌ the surrounding ⁢Kallang River.​ The revised master plan, unveiled today, shifts from a higher-density approach to one prioritizing community living and environmental sustainability.

The​ changes come as the ⁢URA seeks to balance the need for housing with the desire to create a vibrant, liveable neighborhood. the 17-hectare site, located near Geylang Bahru MRT station, is slated for a​ mix of public and private housing, alongside commercial and recreational amenities. The URA’s decision impacts ‍future residents, developers, and the broader ‌Kallang area, with the revised plans aiming to deliver a​ more‌ attractive and lasting urban surroundings. Redevelopment of ⁢the area is expected to take place ⁤over the next decade,with the first public housing projects launching in the coming ⁤years.

The updated plans feature a ⁣”River Loop” – a continuous park connector along the Kallang River, designed to promote active mobility and provide​ residents with access⁤ to waterfront recreational spaces. Increased greenery throughout the precinct, including⁣ rooftop gardens and sky terraces, is also a key component of the revised design. The URA is also incorporating‌ design guidelines to encourage building facades that respond to the riverfront and create a more visually appealing streetscape.

Alongside⁢ Kampong Bugis, other sites earmarked for redevelopment include Geylang Bahru Industrial ‌Estate, currently under a 60-year lease ‌expiring in‍ the mid-2070s, and the former Kallang Basin Swimming Complex, which closed on August 31. The former Victoria School campus at 3 Geylang ⁢Bahru⁢ Lane,⁤ presently occupied by the Ministry of Manpower, is also slated ⁢for redevelopment into new homes.
