Government Intervention Drives Notable Drop in Rice⁤ Prices Across Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia – September 9, 2025 – ⁣A concerted ‌effort by⁣ the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of ⁣Home Affairs, and Bulog (the Indonesian State Logistics Agency) has resulted in a substantial reduction in‍ rice‍ prices nationwide thru large-scale market operations, officials ⁢announced ‌today.Minister‌ of Agriculture Andi ⁣Amran⁣ Sulaiman emphasized ⁢the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring food‍ availability at affordable prices. A key component of this strategy has been the widespread distribution of rice supply and food prices (SPHP), which has demonstrably lowered costs ⁤for consumers.

“this market operation is a concrete manifestation of the government’s presence to⁢ protect the peopel,” stated Amran. “We want to ensure that rice is ‍available enough, ⁣prices are stable, and the welfare of farmers ⁣are maintained. therefore, we will continue this intervention consistently.”

data from the ⁤Central Statistics Agency (BPS) illustrates the impact of these ⁤efforts. While 214 districts/cities still experienced rising rice prices in the last⁢ week of august 2025, that number⁣ plummeted to ⁢100 ‌districts/cities in the ‍first week of September. Concurrently, the number of districts/cities reporting price ⁤ declines increased from‌ 58 to 105.

Minister of Home Affairs ‍Tito Karnavian lauded the Ministry ⁣of ⁤Agriculture’s actions⁢ during an inflation control coordination meeting this morning. “This phenomenon rarely occurs in the ⁤last two years,” Karnavian ⁣noted. “Data shows government intervention, especially market operations held by the ‍Ministry of Agriculture together ⁤with bulog, ‍succeeded⁢ in stabilizing the⁣ price of rice.”

Beyond market operations, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Bulog conducted a cheap food⁤ movement (Gerakan Pangan Murah – GPM) in 7,285 sub-districts on August 30, 2025, coinciding with Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations. This initiative aimed to bolster purchasing power and ⁣control inflation.

Ministers amran Sulaiman and Karnavian personally visited markets⁣ in Palembang to oversee the smooth distribution⁢ of SPHP rice and ensure public access to ⁤affordable prices.According to BPS Head Amalia Adinegar Widyasanti, rice prices in zones 1 ⁤and‌ 2 are now under control, with the highest retail price (HET) set at Rp 13,500/kg for medium rice and Rp 14,900/kg ⁢for premium rice. Zone 3 remains a priority for continued intervention.

The Ministry⁤ of Agriculture has pledged to strengthen collaboration ‍with the National⁣ Food Agency, Bulog, and regional governments ⁢to maintain ⁣rice price stability across all regions.

“We will ‌not stop⁣ before ⁤the price is really stable in all zones.⁢ This⁣ is our commitment for the people,” Amran affirmed.
