President Marcos Jr. Visits Cambodia for State Visit

President Marcos⁤ Jr. in Cambodia to Bolster ASEAN Ties, Explore ‍Economic Opportunities

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – President Ferdinand Marcos ‍Jr.arrived in Phnom Penh on Tuesday, initiating a state visit⁤ focused on strengthening bilateral relations with Cambodia and reinforcing the Philippines‘⁤ commitment to‍ a unified and progressive Association ⁣of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).He is ‍accompanied by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and members of the Philippine delegation.

The visit comes as the Philippines prepares to assume the ASEAN chairmanship in 2026, and aims to capitalize on complementary strengths ​between the two nations amidst ​global economic challenges. President Marcos stated he will “discuss ways‍ to further diversify our cooperation and strengthen our intra-Asean relationships and exchanges by capitalizing on our complementary strengths in the face of global⁣ economic headwinds.” He also⁤ recognized Cambodia as a key partner in combating transnational crime.

Key areas of discussion include defense and security cooperation, trade, agriculture, and heritage preservation. The ⁣President expressed a desire to increase Philippine exports to Cambodia, specifically in food, beverages, and ​pharmaceutical products, and to expand‌ opportunities for Filipino franchise ​businesses within the Cambodian market.

Meetings are scheduled with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun⁣ Manet, alongside roundtable discussions with business leaders from both countries⁣ to identify avenues for increased trade and investment. President ⁤Marcos emphasized ⁣that intensified defense and security collaboration would contribute to “uphold[ing] a peaceful,stable,and resilient Asean community.”

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III, and Justice Secretary jesus Crispin Remulla ⁤have been‌ designated as ‍government caretakers during the President’s absence.
