Virginia players Win Prizes Ranging up to $100,000 in Record-Breaking Powerball Drawing
Richmond, VA – Virginia Lottery players are celebrating after Saturday night’s historic $1.8 billion Powerball drawing, with winning tickets sold across the Commonwealth awarding prizes up to $100,000. While the jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Texas, Virginia saw meaningful wins among its players.
The Virginia Lottery reported that the estimated $29.6 million in profit generated from ticket sales during the 42-drawing jackpot run will directly benefit K-12 public education in Virginia. This contribution is notably impactful, as the Lottery raised over $901 million for K-12 education in Fiscal Year 2025, representing approximately 10 percent of the state’s total K-12 school budget.Winning tickets were sold at the following locations:
Sheetz at 13801 Lee Street in Fairfax
Varina Market at 4110 Darbytown Road in Henrico
Wawa at 0691 Davidson Place in Manassas
Online via the Virginia Lottery app
The $1.8 billion jackpot is the second-largest U.S. lottery jackpot in history, ending a 41-drawing streak without a grand prize winner. The last Powerball jackpot was claimed on May 31. Players face odds of 1 in 292.2 million to win the jackpot, but the game offers more favorable odds for its numerous smaller prizes, with three drawings held each week. The jackpot is paid out as 30 annual payments over 29 years, tho most winners opt for the cash option, wich was an estimated $826.4 million for Saturday’s drawing. Powerball tickets cost $2 and are available in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
