New Resources Aim ⁣to Bolster digital‌ News Creators, With Submission Deadline Extended

A new initiative, the Global ⁢News Gap Project, launched by the Google News Initiative (GNI) in ⁣partnership with WAN-IFRA and FT Strategies, aims to address the challenges faced by digital ‌native news organizations and independent news creators. The project will provide strategy consultations, growth product training, and‌ resources to⁢ 300 selected organizations, with ‍an ‍extended application‌ deadline of⁤ September 8th.

The project stems from a need “To deepen our understanding of ⁤news creators and their challenges, and identify opportunities for us to help⁣ grow their work‍ and help it thrive in an evolving ecosystem.” To that end,the GNI,WAN-IFRA,and ⁢FT Strategies have created three key resources: a segmentation taxonomy for funders and platforms,co-created information⁢ guidelines for creators focused on accuracy and‌ reliability, and a diagnostic tool to assess and improve financial sustainability.

The Global News ⁣Gap Project will offer‍ selected participants strategy consultations from FT ⁤Strategies and long-term⁤ growth product training from GNI trainers. Additionally, ‍150 organizations‍ will ‌receive an annual content package from the Associated Press (AP), and another 150 will gain two years of membership with WAN-IFRA.Interested ⁢news creators can apply‌ at https://blog.google/feed/emerging-news-providers-can-apply-for-the-new-global-news-gaps-project/.
