A major fire is under control at a nine-storey building in White City, west London, after more than 100 firefighters responded to the scene. London Fire Brigade (LFB) crews were called to the building on Western Avenue shortly after 9:30am on Friday, september 6, 2024.
The blaze, which affected parts of the third, fourth and fifth floors, prompted significant disruption in the area, with road closures and transport delays. While the cause of the fire is currently unknown, investigations are underway to determine the origin and contributing factors. No injuries have been reported at this time.
Approximately 125 firefighters and officers from stations across London tackled the fire, utilizing 21 fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, and other specialized equipment.The LFB received a high volume of 999 calls reporting the incident.
“Firefighters worked incredibly hard to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further,” a London Fire Brigade spokesperson stated. “The building was evacuated as a precaution, and crews remain on scene to dampen down any remaining hotspots.”
The affected building, formerly part of the BBC White city complex and now housing various media and technology companies, including sky News, has experienced significant fire damage. Sky News confirmed that its broadcasting operations were temporarily disrupted as a result of the incident, but services have since been restored.
Authorities are advising members of the public to avoid the area while emergency services continue their work and investigations proceed.Updates will be provided as they become available.
