Japan Trade Deal Boosts Ethanol Exports & American Farmers

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Growth Energy applauded the Trump administration’s recent release of additional‌ implementation details regarding the U.S.-japan trade agreement, initially‍ announced⁣ in July. The deal is expected to bolster ‍markets for U.S.‍ agricultural products, especially ethanol.

“Rural America needs reliable markets for their crops⁢ and that’s⁣ exactly what president Trump is delivering through this agreement with Japan,” said Growth Energy CEO⁢ Emily ⁤Skor. “As the effects of this⁢ agreement ripple out, it will drive new business between U.S. ethanol producers and Japanese buyers, which in turn will translate into more corn purchases and more income for ⁣American farmers. We commend the administration for keeping its promises on trade and look forward to watching these agreements bear fruit for American farmers and rural communities.”

U.S. ethanol exports to Japan reached 129 million gallons in 2024, largely⁣ in the form of ethyl tert-butyl‌ ether (ETBE). Through July 2025, exports totaled 82 million gallons, positioning the industry to ‌surpass⁢ 2024’s volume even prior⁣ to the full implementation of the trade deal.
