Bangkok‘s MRT Cultural Center Station Briefly Flooded Following Heavy Rainfall
Bangkok, Thailand – Heavy rainfall in Bangkok caused flooding at the MRT Cultural Center Station on September 5, 2025, disrupting service and prompting a rapid response from transit authorities. While the flooding was primarily contained to the station entrance, the incident highlights Bangkok’s ongoing vulnerability to urban flooding during the rainy season and the challenges of maintaining infrastructure amidst continued construction.
A clip of the flooded entrance circulated on social media, posted by Facebook user Tui Sankaworn at 7:20 PM local time. The incident occurred as intense rainfall overwhelmed drainage systems near the station, exacerbated by nearby building construction. BEM Bangkok Expressway and Metro, the operator of the MRT, confirmed the flooding in a Facebook post at 8:16 PM, stating that officials were working to resolve the issue and apologizing for any inconvenience caused.
According to BEM, the overflow was a direct result of the heavy downpour combined wiht water runoff from construction projects in the vicinity of the Cultural Center Station. Staff instantly began inspecting the area and implementing corrective measures to mitigate the impact of the flooding and restore normal operations. The extent of any service delays was not immediately clear, but BEM assured the public that they were working to address the situation swiftly.
