BREAKING: The Conjuring: The Last Rites is poised for a major opening weekend,with preview screenings already generating an estimated $7 million to $8 million as of tonight. This marks Warner Bros.’ seventh no. 1 opener and extends their streak to four consecutive chart-topping horror films.
The Michael Chaves-directed installment, produced by The Safran Company and Atomic Monster, is projected to earn over $40 million during the Friday-Monday holiday frame. These strong previews surpass those of recent horror releases including Sinners ($4.7M), Final Destination: Bloodlines ($5.5M), The Nun ($5.4M), and Chaves’ previous film, The Nun II ($3.1M). Final Destination: Bloodlines and The Nun both opened to over $50 million domestically.The Conjuring universe-encompassing the core films and Annabelle and Nun spinoffs-has collectively grossed $2.3 billion globally, establishing it as the highest-grossing horror franchise of all time. The Last Rites currently holds a 58% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, comparable to 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me do It (56%). The Devil Made Me Do It debuted with $24.1 million domestically and concluded its theatrical run with $65.6 million stateside and $206 million worldwide,though its performance was impacted by a simultaneous release on HBO Max.
Earlier this year,warner bros. opened New Line’s Final Destination: Bloodlines to a franchise-best $51.6 million domestically, ultimately grossing over $138 million in the U.S. and $301 million worldwide.
