Seven companies in the Antwerp region have filed for bankruptcy in the first week of September, according to filings with the Belgian courts. The wave of insolvencies spans sectors including food wholesale, construction, and hospitality, signaling continued economic pressures on businesses in the area.
This latest round of bankruptcies follows a period of increasing financial strain for Antwerp businesses, with a nearly 30% rise in failures reported during the summer months. Creditors of the affected companies are now being notified and given the prospect to submit claims. Court-appointed curators are overseeing each case, tasked with managing assets and attempting to salvage value for those owed money.
The companies declared bankrupt are:
Prolux food (Antwerp), a non-specialized wholesaler of non-deep-frozen foods, drinks, and stimulants, with Bastenier appointed as curator.
Eurotm (Niel), a general construction firm specializing in residential buildings, under the curatorship of Bergmans. AFN (Antwerp), focused on specialized construction activities, also with Bergmans as curator.
Rex Mining Company (Antwerp), involved in diamond editing, and overseen by curator Bastenier.
The Golden Rooster (antwerp), operating mobile eateries, with Bastenier appointed as curator.
Gebroeders Simons (antwerp), a road and highway construction company, under the curatorship of Anné Da.
* Bostan 2 (Ekeren), another mobile eatery business, with Bastenier serving as curator.
