Cubs Outfielder Kyle Tucker Could Command $400 Million Contract, Says MLB Insider
Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker is projected to be a top free agent this offseason and could land a contract worth up to $400 million, according to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. The prediction, made during a Tuesday episode of MLB Central, positions Tucker among a select group of players to have secured deals exceeding $400 million.Currently, only four MLB players have reached that milestone: Juan Soto (15 years, $765 million with the New york Mets), Shohei Ohtani (10 years, $700 million with the Los angeles Dodgers), Vladimir Guerrero Jr.(14 years, $500 million with the Toronto Blue Jays), and Mike Trout (12 years, $426.5 million with the Los Angeles Angels).
Heyman noted Tucker overcame an injury earlier this season, finishing his first year with the Cubs hitting .270 with 22 home runs, 73 RBIs, 89 runs scored, and 25 stolen bases through 133 games. He also highlighted Tucker’s consistent performance, citing his .853 OPS.
While Heyman doesn’t anticipate Tucker reaching the $500 million mark, he believes Guerrero Jr.’s extension will be a key comparison point during negotiations. “I don’t think he’s going to get to $500 million, but I think $400 million might be realistic,” Heyman said. He also stated that despite Kyle Schwarber having a statistically better year, Tucker, being in his 20s, is the top free agent available.
