Giorgio Armani,teh iconic Italian fashion designer,has died at age 91,his company announced. “With infinite sorrow,the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator,founder and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani,” the fashion house said in a statement.Known as “Re Giorgio” – King Giorgio in Italian – armani had been unwell for some time and missed his group’s shows at Milan‘s Men’s Fashion Week in June, the first time in his career he had been absent from a catwalk event. He remained the sole owner of his company, working closely with long-time colleagues and family members.
“In this company, we have always felt like part of a family,” the company statement read. Employees and family members pledged to protect and carry forward armani’s legacy “with respect, responsibility, and love.”
Armani famously oversaw every detail of his collections and business, from advertising to runway preparations.
A funeral chamber will be set up in Milan on September 6 and 7, followed by a private funeral at a later date.
