Pittsburgh Penguins players have begun informal captain’s practices as preparations for the 2024-25 season accelerate.Several players were on the ice Wednesday, including recently acquired goaltender Arturs Silovs and prospects Joel Blomqvist and Sergei Murashov. Silovs appears to be a frontrunner for the backup goaltender position, facing shots from regular players during Wednesday’s practice. Filip Larsson,coming off a strong season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins,also participated in the session,vying for a potential prospect.Notably,sources have confirmed to Pittsburgh Hockey Now that defenseman erik karlsson has been in Pittsburgh for approximately one week and is actively increasing his training intensity. Karlsson missed training camp and the preseason last year due to an injury sustained during a captain’s practice.
The Penguins have not yet announced the official start date for training camp.
