Gravel Grinder Gathering: Kurstin Graham Leads Multi-Day Ely Adventure
ELY, NV – A challenging multi-day gravel cycling event is set to unfold in and around Ely, Nevada, September 11-19, led by Kurstin Graham and utilizing routes detailed in the Gravel Adventure Field Guide for ely / White Pine County. The ride promises a deep dive into Eastern NevadaS rugged terrain and a showcase of the region’s growing gravel cycling scene.
Graham will be guiding participants through a curated selection of routes,camping at Elk Flat Campground (site 7) in Cave Lake State Park through September 18,then relocating to Illipah Reservoir Rec Area for the final two nights. The event offers riders the possibility to tackle a variety of distances and elevations, experiencing the diverse landscapes surrounding Ely.
The itinerary includes: September 11th – arrival and the 18-mile Iceplant Gravel Loop (1,465′ elevation); September 12th – a combined 50-mile ride incorporating the Steptoe Valley Trance and Charcoal Burners routes (2,200′ elevation); September 13th – the 14.1-mile Gemstone gravel with Garnet Hill, featuring a unique train ride to Ruth (972′ elevation); September 14th – the demanding Road of Hercules at 52.6 miles (3,013′ elevation); September 15th – the 45.3-mile Horse and Cattle Camp Loop (2,200′ elevation), boasting 100% gravel and potential fly fishing opportunities; September 16th – the 63.4-mile Success Loop (3,600′ elevation); September 17th – Shepard’s Solitude, a 47.3-mile route with 4,800′ of climbing; and culminating September 18-19 with the 86.7-mile Bristlecone: White Pine Range Overnight (8,127′ elevation).While the Gravel Adventure Field Guide offers numerous options,Graham has opted to postpone the Black Horse Miner route out of baker for a future event. Detailed daily plans will be discussed with participants, but the core focus remains exploring the challenging and scenic gravel roads of White Pine County.
