Gymnastics Spring Cup to Showcase NSW’s Rising Talent in Cessnock
Cessnock,NSW – The PCYC NSW Gymnastics Spring Cup returns to PCYC Cessnock this weekend, marking the fourth edition of the state-level competition. Over 600 gymnasts representing 21 PCYC Clubs from across New South Wales will participate, including athletes from dubbo, Shoalhaven, Port Macquarie, Glebe, and the Southern Highlands.
The annual Spring Cup provides a notable chance for PCYC gymnasts and clubs to compete on a large scale outside of Sydney, fostering both athletic development and community connections. This year’s event will feature competitions in Team Gym, Artistic Gymnastics, and Free G, with competitors ranging in age from five to 20 years old.
“This event gives PCYC athletes and Clubs a rare opportunity to compete in a large-scale, exciting competition outside of Sydney,” stated PCYC gymnastics Manager, Justin hayes. “Spring Cup is also a chance for PCYC coaches to strengthen their networks and build lasting connections – it’s a celebration of gymnastics that supports our local community and makes a real contribution to the regional economy.”
Local gymnast Bonnie McDuff, 14, of PCYC Cessnock, is eager to compete on her home turf. McDuff, who joined the team as a last-minute fill-in in 2023, shared, “It’s a really special event, it’s cool to compete against other PCYC gymnasts, and the younger ones get the chance to watch the older participants, so it’s a huge inspiration for them as they progress through the ranks.”
Eleven-year-old Lillie Anning, training with PCYC Lake Macquarie, is also preparing for the competition. “I’m looking forward to showing off all my new skills that I’ve learned at PCYC,” Anning said. “I woudl love to come home with gold but I’m just happy to be competing – my goal is to reach the advanced team and compete overseas, and I know my coaches will help me get there.”
PCYC emphasizes the role of competitions in fostering the growth and development of young people, supporting members in building lifelong skills both on and off the mat.
