Measles Vaccination Expanded to Combat Rising Cases
The Ministry of Health has broadened its measles vaccination campaign to include all individuals up to 19 years of age nationwide. Recognizing higher incidence rates within specific communities, the vaccination age is extended to 40 years for residents of Mennonite communities. This expansion, the third phase of the national campaign, was launched following the delivery of 1.7 million doses.Deputy Minister of Promotion, Epidemiological Surveillance and Traditional medicine, Max enriquez, urged parents and guardians to bring their children to vaccination centers to protect them with the free and safe vaccine provided by the government.
Vaccines are now available in all departments and are being distributed through health networks and municipalities. The broadened age range targets the groups currently experiencing the highest number of measles infections.
Enriquez emphasized that this initiative aims to disrupt the transmission chain, particularly within schools, where students can readily access vaccination. healthcare workers are also reminded that two doses are required due to their increased exposure risk.
With those under 19 currently most affected, students will be required to present their vaccination cards as part of school biosafety protocols.
The Ministry of Health also recommends continued preventative measures in schools, including mask-wearing and frequent handwashing, and advises students with respiratory symptoms to stay home to protect their peers.
