Redbirds Prepare to Host Morehead State in First Home game of 2025 Season
NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State football returns to Hancock Stadium this weekend to face Morehead State, looking to build on a successful 2024 season that saw the team earn a No. 12 national seed in the FCS Playoffs.the Redbirds are eager to play in front of thier home crowd after a strong regular season finish.
The 2024 campaign was marked by individual achievements, including a standout year for receiver Daniel Sobkowicz, who now boasts 2,418 career receiving yards, placing him sixth all-time in ISU history. He trails only ISU Athletics Percy Family Hall of Famer Clarence Collins (2,498) in fifth place. Sobkowicz also ranks fourth in career receptions (179) and career touchdown receptions (22) at Illinois State.
Running back Wenkers Wright also enjoyed a breakout season, surpassing the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career with 1,123 yards and 11 touchdowns. He became the first Redbird to reach 1,000 rushing yards as James Robinson’s remarkable 1,899-yard season in 2019. Wright also eclipsed the 2,000-yard career rushing mark, becoming just the 13th player in school history to achieve that milestone.
Head Coach Brock spack, a three-time finalist for the Stats Perform Eddie Robinson Award (including 2024, as well as 2012 and 2014), led the Redbirds to a 9-3 overall record and a 6-2 mark in Missouri Valley Football Conference play during the regular season.
Looking ahead, Illinois State will also be celebrating the upcoming induction of former defensive end Colton Underwood into the ISU Athletics Percy Family Hall of Fame during homecoming festivities in 2025. Underwood was a two-time FCS All-American and ranks among the program’s all-time leaders in tackles-for-loss (44, 3rd) and sacks (21.5, 4th).
