Oldest Knights of Columbus council in Iowa marks 125 years | Tri-state News

Dubuque,Iowa – Council #573 of the⁢ Knights of Columbus‌ in Dubuque,Iowa,celebrated its‍ 125th anniversary on Sunday,marking a milestone as the oldest Knights of Columbus council ⁤in ⁣the state. The anniversary was commemorated wiht⁤ a Mass​ at St. Joseph the worker Church, followed by a dinner at the Knights ‍of Columbus hall.

Founded on February 2, 1899, Council⁤ #573 ‍has been a cornerstone of the Dubuque‍ community for a century and ⁤a ‌quarter, dedicated to its principles of ‌faith, family, community, and patriotism. The Knights of Columbus, a global ⁤Catholic fraternal‌ association, was established in 1882 by Michael J. McGivney in ⁢New Haven,‍ Connecticut.‌ The Dubuque council’s longevity reflects ‌the ⁣enduring ‌values ‍of the ⁤organization‍ and its continued ​relevance in supporting local initiatives ⁤and charitable causes.

“It’s ​a‍ proud moment for our council and our members,” said grand Knight Mark⁣ Lahr. “To reach 125 years is a testament ‍to‍ the dedication of generations of Knights ⁤who have come before us and their⁢ commitment to making a positive impact⁢ on our community.”

Throughout its⁤ history, Council #573 has been involved in numerous charitable endeavors, ⁢including support for‍ St. ⁣Joseph the Worker Church, local schools, and various community ⁤outreach programs. The​ council also ⁣actively⁤ participates in ⁣pro-life ​initiatives and provides assistance to those in⁤ need. ⁢Currently, the council boasts over​ 300 members. The anniversary celebration included recognition of past ⁢Grand Knights and long-time members,highlighting their contributions to the⁤ council’s success.
