Matt Fraction Calls New Batman Run a “Love letter” to Comics Industry
DC’s upcoming Batman relaunch, spearheaded by writer Matt Fraction, is a deeply personal project-a “love letter to this insane industry and lovely medium,” according to the writer himself. Fraction, known for his work on titles like Immortal Iron Fist and Hawkeye, returns to regular comic book writing after focusing on television projects, including six months shooting a show in Vancouver. He expressed missing the focused creative process of comics, contrasting it with the expansive collaboration required for television.
Fraction highlighted the intimacy of the comics creation process-a core team of writer, artist, editor, colorist, and letterer-as a key appeal. “It is yet to actually feel like work, it is all a labor of love at this point, and I’m just having the time of my life,” he said. He believes this attitude is particularly fitting for a character as extensively explored as Batman, acknowledging the sheer volume of stories already told across various media.
