disney+ Alters ‘Thunderbolts‘ Poster, Removing Character and Weaponry
Disney+ has updated the promotional poster for the Marvel film Thunderbolts*, removing the character Taskmaster and altering the depiction of other anti-heroes. The changes, noticed after the film’s release on the streaming platform, reflect a shift away from violent imagery.
Originally featuring Taskmaster (played by Olga Kurylenko) prominently, the revised poster omits the character entirely, following her early and definitive death in the film - a plot point that sparked discussion after initial marketing materials suggested a larger role.Additionally, Yelena (Florence Pugh) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) are now shown without firearms, and Red Guardian’s knife has been digitally removed, resulting in a less aggressive visual presentation.
The alterations come after Thunderbolts‘ theatrical release, which followed the successes of The Fantastic Four: First Steps and aimed to capitalize on the popularity of Marvel’s anti-hero team. The initial marketing campaign for Thunderbolts* seemingly misled audiences regarding Taskmaster’s importance to the narrative, and Disney+’s poster update appears to be a response to that reception and a move towards a more family-pleasant image.
