Poland Braces for extreme weather: Heatwave Followed by Storms and Hail
WARSAW – A dramatic shift in weather is forecast for Poland this week, with a return to summer-like heat quickly giving way to severe storms and potential hail, according to the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW). The volatile conditions will impact much of the country, prompting warnings for residents to prepare for both high temperatures and potentially dangerous weather events. The approaching weather pattern is particularly noteworthy as September progresses, typically signaling a transition towards cooler, more stable autumn conditions.Tho, synoptics predict a brief but intense heatwave beginning Tuesday, September 2nd, before unsettled conditions move in.This fluctuation underscores the increasing unpredictability of weather patterns linked to broader climate trends.
Tuesday will see a resurgence of warm air, with maximum temperatures reaching up to 31 degrees Celsius in southeastern Poland. Central regions will experience highs around 28 degrees, while western areas and coastal locations will be cooler, peaking at 18-20 degrees Celsius.Accompanying the heat, however, will be the progress of moderate to large cloud cover and a risk of fleeting rainfall accompanied by storms and hail, potentially reaching 20mm. IMGW forecasts wind gusts up to 80 km/h during storm activity, particularly in the Carpathian foothills, where winds will be locally gusty from the south and southeast, shifting to the west and northwest.
Wednesday will bring a contrast in conditions across the country. Western Poland is expected to be sunny with limited cloud cover, while central and eastern regions face continued heavy cloudiness and further rainfall with storms and hail. Precipitation in the southeast could reach as high as 35mm.Temperatures will generally range from 21 to 25 degrees Celsius, rising to 26-29 degrees in the east, but remaining cooler in the foothills at 17-20 degrees Celsius.
