Recent turmoil in the Chinese entertainment industry centers around actress Zhao Lusi, who has found herself in a contract dispute with her agency, Galaxy cool Entertainment. the situation escalated after Zhao Lusi deactivated her verified weibo account, boasting over 30 million followers. Now, she’s sparked further discussion with the establishment of a new company, “Chengdu Maning Co., Ltd.”
According to business registry facts from Qichacha APP, chengdu Maning co., Ltd. has a registered capital of 100,000 yuan. Its business scope encompasses internet sales, clothing retail, and shoe/hat retail. zhao Lusi’s father, Zhao Jun, is listed as the legal representative and director, while Zhao Lusi herself holds 90% of the company’s shares, with Zhu Boxue owning the remaining 10%.
Further investigation reveals Zhao Jun is also associated with two other Chengdu-based companies, “Neiweidezhao Enterprise Management Co.,Ltd.” in both Chengdu and Beijing, established in April and May of this year respectively. “Chengdu Wangde Dede Zhao Company” has applied for trademarks for “FUFUDEZHAO” and registered copyrights for artwork related to Zhao Lusi, including ”DOEDIAN” and “ROSYDOEDIAN.”
Despite deleting her personal Weibo account, Zhao Lusi continues to engage with fans through the official Weibo account of “ROSYDOEDIAN,” an IP brand she founded. This brand focuses on pet culture, inspired by her two dachshunds, Doe and Diandian.
The move to establish a new company comes after zhao Lusi reportedly fell ill during filming late last year,leading to a protracted contract dispute with Galaxy Cool Entertainment. She alleges the agency demanded she cover losses incurred by all parties. During a live broadcast on August 8th, Zhao Lusi stated she was “half of her foot has stepped out of the entertainment industry,” even jokingly suggesting she might open a noodle restaurant and offering to help her former agent find new employment.
Zhao Lusi, 26, rose to prominence with roles in popular dramas like The Stars and the Man (Xinghan Cantata), Can’t Secretly Hide, and Pearl Curtain and Jade Curtain, solidifying her status as a leading young actress. She was hospitalized while filming Lovers last year. She described renewing her contract with galaxy Cool entertainment as a “stupid contract renewal,” noting the agreement extends until 2030. Zhao Lusi has accused the agency of abusive behavior and verbal humiliation, and alleges she faced cold treatment upon returning to work, alongside demands for financial compensation.
The name of her new company, “Maning,” has drawn attention online due to its phonetic similarity to “Money Limited” in Chinese, prompting amusement and praise from netizens who lauded Zhao Lusi’s cleverness and playful approach to business.
