PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL – August 30, 2025 – Multiple golfing legends predict Tiger Woods will eventually compete on the PGA Tour Champions, with some anticipating dominant performances akin to his prime. The speculation surrounding Woods’s return to professional golf has intensified following Achilles surgery in March and a limited competitive schedule.
The potential arrival of Woods on the senior circuit represents a meaningful boost for the Champions tour, promising increased viewership, sponsorship opportunities, and a renewed competitive dynamic. His participation would also address a perceived obligation to the PGA Tour, given substantial earnings from the Player impact program, and provide a platform to continue his competitive career while managing ongoing physical challenges.
Broadcaster Paul Azinger recently stated his belief that Woods will join the Champions Tour, saying, “He will get himself in golf shape. You can ride a cart without any shame and if there was one guy that should be able to drive a cart, its him. … And he can get his ass back in shape.”
Woods, 49, has not participated in a PGA Tour event in 2025. His last official start came at the 2024 Open Championship, where he missed the cut. While he did compete in the TGL season, his recovery from a ruptured Achilles has kept him sidelined from traditional tour play.
Azinger, speaking in January, suggested Woods might feel compelled to contribute to the tour that has financially supported him. “I think Tiger might even feel an obligation to play the Tour,” he said. “The Tour has given Tiger a lot of money the last few years with that Player Impact Program. I’m sure he’s going to give back, and it’s going to be to the benefit of these guys out here that are over 50.”
Bernhard langer, a 47-time Champions Tour winner, expressed confidence in Woods’s eventual participation. “It would be a thrill to see tiger come out and play the Champions Tour,” Langer said in January, “and I’m convinced he will play several. Depends how many.”
Langer shared insights from playing with Woods and his son, Charlie, at the PNC championship last December, where they lost in a playoff. He observed Woods’s continued passion for the game and his enjoyment of witnessing his son’s growth. “Tiger still loves the game. He’s still very competitive, and he enjoys watching his son get better and better at the game, and Charlie loves it, so I think he will stick with it,” Langer noted.
Golfing icon Jack nicklaus echoed the sentiment, predicting Woods would excel on the senior tour. “He’d be able to get in a cart, and he’ll absolutely kill everybody,” Nicklaus stated on Golf Channel’s “Golf Central” in 2024.
