LOS ANGELES - In a deeply personal and moving interview, Emma Heming Willis, wife of action film icon Bruce Willis, has offered a revealing update on his ongoing battle with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). The diagnosis, initially preceded by a period of aphasia – a loss of language skills – has dramatically altered the life of the 68-year-old actor, but his family remains steadfast in their support.
speaking with Diane Sawyer on ABC News, Heming willis described the heartbreaking progression of the disease. “Bruce can still move,” she shared. “His health is good in general. The main problem is that the brain leaves him halfway. The language skill is weakening. we have learned to adapt to it, we have ways to communicate with him.”
Heming Willis noted a noticeable shift in Bruce’s personality, observing a withdrawal from family interactions. “A little away, cold began to come, he was not like the hot and relevant Bruce we know,” she explained, painting a poignant picture of the disease’s impact.
The initial realization of Bruce’s illness was profoundly unsettling for Heming Willis.”I just heard him and perceived anything else. It was like I was free to fall,” she recounted, describing the shock and fear she experienced upon learning of his condition.
despite the immense challenges, moments of joy and connection still emerge. Heming Willis highlighted the occasional glimpses of the Bruce Willis she knows and loves.”We are still living in those days. rather, not the days, moments. His smile. He has a very sincere smile. Sometimes you can see that sparkle, spark in his eyes. Here are those moments as if I teleport another place.”
The family, including Bruce’s ex-wife demi Moore, continues to maintain a strong and supportive relationship, prioritizing his well-being. Moore has been a consistent presence in Bruce’s life, demonstrating a commitment to co-parenting and shared care.
