Surveys show success of the AfD-does the Merz government fail in the fight against the right?
After around 100 days in office, surveys show a sobering picture for the coalition partners. A Forsa survey on behalf of RTL and ntv most recently showed that the AfD could reach first place in voting with 26 percent. The Union, the one in the 2025 Bundestag election still reached 28.5 percent, massive losses have to be plugged in and still has 24 percent of the vote.
Though, the numbers for the SPD are more serious. After the historically poor result in the past Bundestag election (16.41 percent), it only reaches 13 percent in the Forsa survey. The Social Democrats under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil and Minister of Labour Bärbel Bas are at a new low. The Forsa survey for RTL/ntv was carried out with 2505 respondents from August 5th to 11th.
However,it must be mentioned that election surveys are not a guarantee of the actual election outcome. “Surveys are engaging, but should not be equated with election results,” said political scientist Thorsten Faas.
