Sept-Îles Beach Volleyball Club achieves Provincial Success, Heads to Canadian Championships
Sherbrooke/Mauricie, QC – august 3, 2023 – The Club Jône de Volleyball de Plage de Sept-Îles delivered strong performances at the Quebec Provincial beach Volleyball Championships held July 30 – August 2 in Mauricie (U16 Female) and Sherbrooke (U16/U17), culminating in a seventh-place finish for both the Maé Lachance/Jeanne Morin (U17 Female) and Cody Cormier/Gabriel Joseph (U17 Male) duets. This success sets the stage for a historic appearance at the Canadian beach Volleyball Championships in Toronto, beginning Wednesday, August 9th.
the provincial championships saw intense competition, with six U16 female teams battling in Quebec and U17 girls and boys competing in Sherbrooke under warm summer conditions. Several teams were recent participants in the Quebec Games, adding a familiar yet competitive edge to the tournament.
Cormier and Joseph,having secured fifth place against the Outaouais duo at the Quebec Games,faced them again in the elimination round,ultimately falling short before securing seventh place with a decisive win. The Richelieu-Yamaska duo, who finished seventh at the Trois-Rivières leg of the Quebec Games, claimed the U17 Male championship title.
Morin and Lachance also enjoyed a strong showing, winning their round of 16 before losing in the quarter-finals to the host team from the Mauricie region, who had placed ninth at the Quebec Games.
The Club Jône de Volleyball de Plage de Sept-Îles boasted meaningful representation in the U16 female division, with five players – Alexe Langevin, Laura-lee Marcoux, Mary-lou Gauthier, Angélique Charest, and Coralie Lapierre-Métivier – having previously competed at the Quebec Interior Volleyball Games in late July.

This year marks a significant milestone for the Club Jône, as they will send a record seven duets to the canadian National Championships. The breakdown includes five U16 girls’ teams,one U17 girls’ team,and one U17 boys’ team. The club is leveraging the momentum from strong showings at both the Quebec Games and the Provincial Championships.
Prior to departing for Toronto, the majority of the Sept-Îles teams will convene in Sherbrooke for training sessions on Monday and Tuesday.Team pairings have shifted slightly for the national competition, with Gabriel Joseph now partnering with Nicolas Tremblay, while Cody Cormier and Gabriel Landry, along with Alexe Langevin and Ève Robichaud, have returned to Sept-Îles.
