Community Mourns Passing of Beloved Resident

A cherished wife, mother, and grandmother remembered with deep affection.

Roscommon is united in grief following the peaceful passing of Anita, who died on August 10th, 2025, at Sligo University Hospital. The Taughnarra resident, formerly of Taughnoose, Castlerea, leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her extensive family and friends.

A Life Richly Lived

Anita was the devoted wife of Berney, and an adored mother to eight children: John, Berney, Mary, Thómas, Padraic, Dean, Owen, and Áine. Her love extended to her four cherished grandchildren, Dalton, Tommy, Patrick, and Farrah, who will forever hold her dear.

She is also survived by her brothers, Séan and Padraic, and her sister, Mary. The family circle includes numerous nephews, nieces, daughters-in-law, partners, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and a wide network of extended family, neighbours, and friends who will profoundly miss her presence.

Services and Arrangements

A period of public remembrance will be held at McDonagh’s Funeral Home in Castlerea (F45 V2Y4) on Tuesday evening from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will take place at St. Brigid’s Church, Cloonbonniffe, on Wednesday at noon, followed by interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Castlerea.

In line with family wishes, the house will remain private.

Community Reflection

The passing of Anita serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of family connections. In Ireland, figures like the late Tomás Bán Fitzgerald, a renowned storyteller and a pillar of his community, highlight how deeply individuals can impact those around them, fostering bonds that endure through generations.
