Childhood Constipation: Doctors Warn of Rising Cases Linked to Poor Diet

Bangkok, Thailand – A growing number of young children are experiencing abdominal pain and digestive issues due to constipation, according to a recent report by Thai doctors. Teh condition, often misdiagnosed as appendicitis, is frequently linked to unhealthy eating habits and a lack of fiber in the diet.

Doctors are emphasizing the importance of careful observation by parents, as children may struggle to articulate their discomfort effectively. The initial symptom is typically stomach pain, followed by the passage of hard, pellet-like stools, sometimes mixed wiht liquid.A common pattern involves a diet heavily skewed towards snacks, grilled pork, and limited intake of vegetables and fruits.

Dr. michael Lee, a leading pediatrician, explained that the problem stems from a buildup of stool in the stomach, causing meaningful pain during bowel movements. The pain is often diffuse, making it difficult to pinpoint the exact location. “Constipation has a significant impact on a child’s overall health, affecting both their physical and mental well-being,” Dr. Lee stated.

Treatment typically begins with laxatives to clear the initial blockage. However, long-term management requires behavioral changes, notably establishing consistent toilet habits. Doctors recommend “Toilet Training,” encouraging children to sit on the toilet at a designated time each morning, ideally before school.

Severe or persistent cases may require medical intervention and medication. Parents are advised to consult a physician if constipation is frequent or accompanied by other concerning symptoms.
