Sentebale Faces Scrutiny After Allegations of Mismanagement, Sparks Concerns Over Legacy of Princess Diana
London, UK – The Sentebale Foundation, co-founded by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, is grappling with a public relations crisis following reports of internal disputes and concerns over its management practices. The Charity Commission for England and Wales has acknowledged “a strong perception of abuse” within the association, though it did not find evidence of systematic harassment. The controversy centers around allegations of a toxic work habitat and inappropriate behavior, prompting the foundation to temporarily disable comments on its social media platforms.
Established in 2006 by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho,Sentebale – meaning “forget me not” in Sesotho – focuses on supporting children and young people affected by HIV/AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana. The foundation provides healthcare, education, and psychosocial support, operating primarily in the districts of maseru,Mohale’s Hoek, and Qacha’s Nek in Lesotho, and in the Bobirwa region of Botswana. Sentebale’s annual reports indicate a total expenditure of £3.7 million in 2022, with £2.2 million directly allocated to programs.
David Holdsworth, director of the charity commission, emphasized the potential for well-intentioned passion to become detrimental when coupled with poor management. The regulator’s review, initiated in response to anonymous complaints, found no evidence of systemic harassment but highlighted important concerns regarding the organization’s governance and internal culture. The Commission is continuing to monitor Sentebale’s progress in addressing these issues.
