Laâyoune Water Station Operations Launch
Enhanced Water Supply for Laâyoune-Tarfaya Region
The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE)-Water Branch has commenced crucial operations at the Laâyoune desalination station, extending vital services across the production sector serving Laâyoune-Tarfaya.
Infrastructure and Support Mobilized
The initiative involves extensive groundwork at the site, which comprises multiple stations and boreholes. A framework market agreement, initially for one year and renewable twice, has been established. This contract ensures the supply of mechanical equipment and a skilled workforce dedicated to sand clearance, dune stabilization, and the removal of excavated materials.
Boosting Regional Water Security
This expansion of desalination capabilities is a significant step towards improving water resource management in the region. According to the World Bank, investments in water infrastructure are critical for economic development, with projects like this enhancing resilience against drought and ensuring a stable water supply for communities and industries alike. For instance, similar desalination projects in countries like Israel have successfully met a significant portion of their domestic water needs, showcasing the potential of such advanced water technologies.
