Belgian television personality Tom Waes, who recently admitted to driving under the influence, has sought refuge and reflection at a monastery in Bocholt, Limburg. The incident, which has garnered meaningful attention across Belgium and the Netherlands, has prompted Waes to engage in public awareness campaigns and personal introspection.
Waes, 56, recently appeared on the Dutch program ‘Kloostergasten’ (monastery Guests) on NPO2. The show features well-known individuals spending time with nuns for a period of contemplation. During his stay at Priory Klaarland in Bocholt, Waes openly discussed his past mistake with the sisters, expressing a desire to find mental peace and address his guilt.
“I made a very serious mistake. I have a huge feeling of guilt about it,” Waes confessed to Sister josé. He sought guidance on how to best manage this guilt.Sister José, while acknowledging the gravity of his actions, offered a perspective on human fallibility, stating, “You will have to pay for it.” She added that individuals are often too swift to dismiss people after a single mistake, emphasizing the importance of understanding what went wrong rather than solely condemning the act.
