The potential matchup between Max Holloway and Nate diaz could mark the fifth time the BMF title has been contested in UFC history. Dustin Poirier is the onyl fighter to have challenged for this unique championship on two occasions, both resulting in losses.
Diaz has publicly expressed his interest in returning to the UFC earlier this year, and Holloway was among the fighters he named as potential opponents. The BMF belt has been on the line in four previous fights as its inception at UFC 244 in 2019, when nate Diaz faced Jorge Masvidal.
Whether the bout between Holloway and Diaz will be officially sanctioned for the BMF title remains to be seen.
